EXPERIENCE

Freelance writer and editor, March 1994 to present

Projects range from magazine writing to corporate editing, with several forays into web copywriting and book editing, all with an openness to participate in anything else in between. Currently serving as Contributing Editor for Racquet Sports Industry magazine and Chief Technical Writer for Seroptyx LLC. (See Client List.)

New York Times Magazine Group / Miller Publishing LLC, June 1994 to August 2004:

USTA Magazine (supplement to Tennis), November 1998 to August 2004—Senior Editor (last position held)
Responsible for day-to-day editorial aspects of the magazine: conceived story ideas and reviewed queries, assigned articles, edited most submissions, collaborated with art director on layouts, line-edited, copy-edited and approved final proofs. Extensive experience with features, profiles, health-and-fitness, instruction and front-of-book. Three stories I conceived, assigned and edited won APEX Awards for feature writing.

Tennis magazine, July 1995 to November 1998—Assistant Editor (last position held)
Responsibilities included copy editing, line editing and writing. Worked with features, humor, health-and-fitness, gear guides and front-of-book. Assigned and edited stories for special sections. Earlier responsibilities included research, fact-checking and managing photo library.

Golf Digest, June 1994 to July 1995—Fulltime Intern
Worked on special publications, including editorial and photo research, proof reading and copy writing. Helped launch Golf.com and Tennis.com. Assisted with foreign licensing of art and editorial.

Symantec Corporation, May 1993 to January 1994

Technical Writer
As half of a two-person writing team, wrote user's manual for a client/server development tool. Edited correspondence for division president.

EDUCATION

Sacred Heart University, Fairfield, Conn., media studies major, English minor (writing concentration). Served as editor of university newspaper from April 1992 to May 1994 and humor columnist from September 1994 to December 1996. For senior project, authored a 120-page book about driving cross-country. Studied magazine publishing under Dick Durrell, founding publisher of People magazine.


HOBBIES & INTERESTS

Travel, tennis, golf, softball, ice-skating, rollerblading, cycling, acoustic guitar, writing and photography.
