Chris Nicholson's Writing Weblog
July 16, 2005 Saturday
I have three things to mention, and attempting to determine the order of importance is downright baffling.
1: I have recently had an article published, in the July 2005 issue of USTA Magazine, a Tennis magazine supplement. The article, "Shooting Stars," is a tutorial for tennis fans hoping to snap great photos of pro players at a tennis tournament. I'll post the article in my bibliography in a few weeks.
2: My friend Ilene, a doctor and writer, had an op-ed published by the Washington Post yesterday. "For Poor Women, An AIDS Safety Net" discusses the issue of microbicides in preventing the transmission of HIV. Don't know what microbicides are? No wonder. Ilene writes, "In a world where vaccines are the rock stars of HIV prevention, microbicides are the street musicians — egalitarian, resourceful and poorly paid." But they may be one of modern medicine's best tools for halting one of our most notorious diseases.
3: The new Harry Potter book is now officially on sale in most parts of the world. I've just returned home from a midnight run to a local bookstore, where my sister Katie very graciously purchased a copy of the book for me. I haven't awaited a new book so eagerly since my college days, when I felt the same about Dave Barry's new releases.
