Chris Nicholson's Writing Weblog
July 25, 2005 Monday
I just returned home from an 8-day family-reunion cruise to the eastern Caribbean. I did not read the new Harry Potter book while away, because I knew that doing so would distract me from the real reason I was there: spending time with family.
Instead, I cracked the binding of Corelli's Mandolin, by Louis De Bernieres. An old writer friend of mine, Ed Weathers, suggested Corelli's Mandolin as a book that every writer should read. Perhaps; but on board a cruise ship, I couldn't get past chapter two.
I'll try again in the future, but now that I'm home, I'm reading Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. The first half-chapter is excellent.
